浙江越秀外國語學(xué)院是經(jīng)國家教育部批準(zhǔn)設(shè)立的全日制普通本科高校。學(xué)校坐落于中國首批歷史文化名城、著名的江南水鄉(xiāng)、魯迅故里??浙江紹興,始創(chuàng)于1981年,2008年經(jīng)國家教育部批準(zhǔn)升格為本科高校。
學(xué),F(xiàn)有稽山、鏡湖兩個校區(qū),占地面積近1300畝,校園建筑面積42萬余平方米;圖書館館藏紙質(zhì)圖書168萬余冊,電子圖書102萬冊。
學(xué),F(xiàn)有全日制在校生16000余名,教職員工1000余名,其中教師900余名,高級職稱教師占專任教師的34%以上,具有碩士與博士學(xué)位教師占75%以上,有享受國務(wù)院特殊津貼專家2人,有現(xiàn)任或曾任教育部專業(yè)指導(dǎo)委員會委員4人;目前擁有來自美國、英國、加拿大、韓國、日本等國家的外籍教師百余名,其中博士外教17名。
學(xué)校設(shè)有英語學(xué)院、東方語言學(xué)院、西方語言學(xué)院、國際商學(xué)院、網(wǎng)絡(luò)傳播學(xué)院、中國語言文化學(xué)院、酒店管理學(xué)院、印第安納波利斯大學(xué)國際學(xué)院、成人教育學(xué)院等9個二級學(xué)院,開設(shè)有27個本科專業(yè),涵蓋文學(xué)、經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)、管理學(xué)、藝術(shù)學(xué)等4個學(xué)科門類,含英語、法語、德語、俄語、西班牙語、意大利語、葡萄牙語、日語、韓語、阿拉伯語、印度尼西亞語等11個外語語種,是目前浙江省開設(shè)外語語種最多,也是省內(nèi)唯一開設(shè)印度尼西亞語專業(yè)的本科高校,在小語種外語人才培養(yǎng)上具有豐富的辦學(xué)資源和品牌優(yōu)勢。
學(xué)校已形成了以外國語言文學(xué)學(xué)科專業(yè)為重點,以文學(xué)學(xué)科專業(yè)為主干,以經(jīng)濟(jì)類、管理類、新聞傳播類、藝術(shù)類學(xué)科專業(yè)為支撐的多學(xué)科相互交叉、協(xié)調(diào)發(fā)展的學(xué)科專業(yè)布局。外國語言文學(xué)入選省級一流(重點)學(xué)科,外國語言學(xué)及應(yīng)用語言學(xué)和法語語言文學(xué)等學(xué)科為市級重點學(xué)科;朝鮮語專業(yè)為浙江省重點專業(yè)和省“十二五”優(yōu)勢專業(yè),英語、法語、傳播學(xué)、國際經(jīng)濟(jì)與貿(mào)易4個專業(yè)為浙江省新興特色專業(yè),英語和日語2個專業(yè)為紹興市特色(重點)專業(yè)。
學(xué)校是“聯(lián)合國學(xué)術(shù)影響”組織成員,科研、教研成果產(chǎn)出不斷提升。2015年獲得國家社科基金項目2項,獲得省部級科研項目13項,立項市級以上各類教學(xué)改革項目38項。學(xué)校教學(xué)設(shè)備先進(jìn)完備,建有1個省級外語實驗教學(xué)中心,4個市級實驗教學(xué)示范中心,配備有同聲翻譯實驗室、語言實驗室、國際經(jīng)濟(jì)與貿(mào)易專業(yè)實驗室、工商管理專業(yè)實驗室、網(wǎng)絡(luò)編輯專業(yè)實驗室、視頻圖片編輯專業(yè)實驗室等教學(xué)實驗設(shè)施設(shè)備;建有小語種外語學(xué)習(xí)沙龍、外語文化體驗室、日本茶道館、實驗酒店以及SPT外語文化街等體驗異國文化的校園文化設(shè)施;建有創(chuàng)業(yè)學(xué)院,大力拓展校外教學(xué)實習(xí)實訓(xùn)基地,為實踐教學(xué)創(chuàng)造了完備的條件。

近年來,學(xué)校致力于探索與實踐“12345 ”SPT應(yīng)用型人才培養(yǎng)體系,在應(yīng)用型外語人才培養(yǎng)質(zhì)量方面已形成鮮明特色,人才培養(yǎng)質(zhì)量得到社會各界和家長學(xué)生的充分肯定,畢業(yè)生初次就業(yè)率連續(xù)十年位于浙江省高校前列。在2013年浙江省教育廳發(fā)布的畢業(yè)生質(zhì)量評估數(shù)據(jù)中,用人單位對我校畢業(yè)生質(zhì)量的滿意度得分排名位列全省本科高校第二。
學(xué)校大力推進(jìn)國際化特色戰(zhàn)略,國際合作辦學(xué)成果顯著。2013年、,在浙江省教育廳對外發(fā)布的浙江高校國際化總體水平排名中,學(xué)校連續(xù)兩年在“浙江省其他本科院校國際化總體水平”排名中摘得桂冠。目前學(xué)校的國際合作項目已經(jīng)覆蓋11個外語語種,與美國、英國、加拿大、新西蘭、俄羅斯、法國、德國、西班牙、意大利、韓國、日本、新加坡、臺灣地區(qū)等18個國家和地區(qū)的67所大學(xué)或機(jī)構(gòu)建立了實質(zhì)性友好合作關(guān)系,每年派出700余名學(xué)生出國(境)進(jìn)行長短期語言文化交流,開展本科雙學(xué)位、本碩連讀等留學(xué)項目;每年招收外國留學(xué)生300名左右。
在“和成?育秀”校訓(xùn)和“自信、和諧、競成、人文”的校園文化引領(lǐng)下,學(xué)校開展具有國際特色、豐富多彩的學(xué)生活動,組建了浙江省高校第一支大學(xué)生教官隊,目前有學(xué)生教官200余人。大學(xué)生教官隊承擔(dān)了學(xué)校每年的新生軍訓(xùn)任務(wù),同時也成為踐行的標(biāo)桿和校園文化建設(shè)的一道亮麗風(fēng)景線。9月,浙江省軍區(qū)教導(dǎo)大隊授予學(xué)校為全省唯一的大學(xué)生教官培訓(xùn)中心??“浙江省國防教育基地大學(xué)生教官培訓(xùn)中心”。
學(xué)校倡導(dǎo)“奉獻(xiàn)、友愛、互助、進(jìn)步”的大學(xué)生志愿精神,全面開展各類志愿、義工服務(wù),把社區(qū)義工作為課程納入學(xué)分,并在第二屆世界互聯(lián)網(wǎng)大會和即將舉行的G20峰會等重要場合,展示了越秀大學(xué)生志愿者的靚麗風(fēng)采,在紹興、浙江乃至全國都贏得了眾多的榮譽和良好的口碑,形成了“越秀特色”的志愿服務(wù)品牌。
2015年5月13日下午,中共浙江省委書記夏寶龍同志來學(xué)校調(diào)研辦學(xué)情況后,指出:“越秀很有活力,學(xué)校的辦學(xué)目標(biāo)很清晰,辦學(xué)思路很明確,祝愿今后在創(chuàng)新、特色的道路上繼續(xù)前行,發(fā)展得越來越好”。夏寶龍書記的評價,既是對學(xué)校辦學(xué)的充分肯定,更是對學(xué)校今后發(fā)展的殷切期望。

ZYUFL in Brief
Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages (ZYUFL), a full-time institute offering regular undergraduate education, is located in Shaoxing, hometown of the famous writer Lu Xun and a well-known ancient city with rich cultural heritage. The history of ZYUFL dates back to its founding in 1981. After decades of development, it was accredited in 2008 by the National Ministry of Education of China as a four-year university.
The Psent ZYUFL comprises two campuses, i.e., Jishan Campus and Jinghu Campus, covering an area of 1,300 mu (approximately 214 hectares) with a total floor area of about 420,000 square meters. The library possesses a collection of 1.68 million conventional books/publications and 1.02 million e-books.
Presently, the University has an enrollment of over 16,000 full-time undergraduates against a teaching staff of more than 1,000. Over 34% of the 900 regular teachers are full or associate professors, and 75% have received master’s and/or doctoral degrees. Additionally, two faculty members are winners of the Special Government Allowance, while another four have been members of the Teaching Advisory Commission under the Ministry of Education. Also engaged in the university’s teaching affairs are 100 or so foreign teachers/experts (17 of whom have doctorate degrees in various majors) from such countries as the US, Britain, Canada, South Korea, Japan and so on.
The University consists of 9 colleges/schools, namely, College of English, College of Oriental Languages, College of Euro-languages, College of International Business, College of Network Communication, College of Chinese Language and Culture, International School of Hospitality Management, College of International Education, and School of Continuing Education. Up to 27 majors for undergraduates offered in ZYUFL have covered such academic areas as literature, economics, business management, and arts. The curriculum involves 11 foreign languages in it, including English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Bahasa Indonesia. Being the only one university with a Bahasa Indonesia language program besides other languages, the university thus ranks the first in terms of sort and number of foreign languages ever offered in Zhejiang Province, showing its potential resources as well as the competence in foreign languages education.
ZYUFL has established an overall structure of majors and disciplines which revolve around a variety of foreign languages and literature, characterized by a focus on subjects of liberal arts and accompanied by a range of academic courses in economics, business management, network communication, etc. It facilitates the complementary interaction between subjects and disciplines, enabling their coordinated growth. Consequently, ZYUFL has won official recognition at different levels due to merits in its disciplinary construction and development. For instance, the university has been ranked in the provincial list of main subjects for its key discipline of Foreign Languages and Literature; in the municipal list for its key disciplines of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics as well as French Language and Literature. Meanwhile, ZYUFL’s Korean language subject is recognized as a key major in Zhejiang Province and given priority for support. Some other majors including English, French, network communication, and international trade & finance, have been honored as emerging majors with distinctive local features. Besides, English and Japanese have drawn public attention in Shaoxing just because of their effective application and function in the city’s economic growth.
As a member of the United Nations Academic Impact, ZYUFL has made steady progress in scientific research. In the year 2015 alone, the University had 2 projects supported by National Social Science Foundation, 13 programs sponsored at provincial or ministerial level, and as many as 38 items concerning educational reform won project approval at the municipal level (Shaoxing).
ZYUFL possesses advanced equipment and facilities for teaching and practice. It boasts a provincial-level center for foreign language experiments, and four municipal-level demonstration centers for teaching practice. All the centers are equipped with laboratories of one kind or another, such as Simultaneous InterPting, Language Lab, Lab for International Business and Trade, and other relevant apparatus as well. On the other hand, there are language salons for minority language learners, classrooms for perceiving foreign cultures, Japanese tea ceremony, and SPT culture streets, all of which help create a virtual atmosphere for language learning. Besides, the university has already set up connections with a number of major bases outside the campus for teaching and on-the-spot practices.
Aiming to developing itself into a first-class non-public funded university and cultivating open-minded talents with international vision, ZYUFL has been guided with the conception of “management with high international standard” while taking a down-to-earth attitude in daily work, so as to carry out the general strategy of “a foreign language plus a specific objective” developed by the university leadership which contains a series of detailed plans and practical measures to ensure its fulfillment.
In recent years, ZYUFL has been experimenting on the established long-term policies of its talent cultivation system known as SPT (System of Professional Talent), which is conveniently termed as the “1-2-3-4-5” mode (the codes stand for a series of feasible measures to be taken). The SPT system has proved successful in cultivating foreign language talents with high quality, and the University has received positive feedback from the society, the students, and their parents as well. A convincing fact is that the students’ Initial employment rate has been on the top for ten consecutive years in the list concerning students from all colleges and universities in the province. Another assessment of graduates’ quality released by the provincial Bureau of Education in 2013 revealed that of all the four-year universities in Zhejiang Province, ZYUFL ranked the second place in terms of graduates’ quality to employers’ satisfaction.
The University has scored fruitful results in international exchange. An official investigation concerning the overall state in terms of internationalization indicates that ZYUFL ranked first for two consecutive years in 2013 and 2014 among all the universities in Zhenjiang Province. Currently, it has established intercollegiate cooperative ties with 67 higher education institutions and organizations from 18 countries or regions including U.S., UK, Canada, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan, and the international collaborative programs involve 11 foreign languages. Every year the university will enroll 300 overseas students, while assigning about 700 students to colleges or universities overseas on a short term basis for intercollegiate cultural exchange, or on a long term basis for continuous academic projects that involve undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
Observing the school motto of “Harmony, Integrity, Cultivation, Success”, ZYUFL has organized a military training team, the first and the only one of its kind within universities and colleges in the province. About 200 students on the team serving as “officers” responsible for the regular military training for freshmen, which features a unique part of the ZYUFL culture. Consequently the university has been entitled as a model of “National Defense Education Base & Military Training Center” by the authorities concerned.
ZYUFL promotes the voluntary spirit of “Loving, Giving, Helping, Growing” among students and awards credits for their doing voluntary work or service in local communities or on other occasions, which has exerted positive effects, constituting a kind of voluntary service with its “ZYUFL characteristic”. A case in point is our students’ performance at the World Internet Conference in 2015. This year the students are to provide their voluntary service once more during the G20 Summit to be held in Hangzhou.
In may 2015, Xia Baolong, Party Secretary of Zhejiang Province, paid an inspection visit to ZYUFL, during which he pointed out with satisfaction that the university was making vigorous strides forward with clear and practical goals and had made great achievements. The secretary’s best wishes to and further expectations for the university will encourage the leadership and the staff to do better in future.
In the coming years of the 13th national five-year-plan, the university is to achieve its set goals with painstaking efforts and innovative practice, so as to be fully obliged to the duty of an accredited university in pursuing excellence in teaching and scientific research, in cultivating students in accordance with the requirements of the society and employers.
